Former Millwall boss Ian Holloway has questioned protesting Charlton fans over their whistle stunt during yesterday’s win against Middlesbrough.

Whistles were blown throughout the game and the referee had to subsequently stop play on two occasions – one halted a promising Boro attack when Gaston Ramirez was bearing down on goal.

With chants like “you’ve got to play to the whistle” from amused home fans - Holloway, speaking at half-time on Sky, was less than impressed.

The TV pundit said: “You can understand how football supporters are but really, I’d like to say this: 'You’re a supporter so try and support' and there are right ways to do that.

“You shouldn’t do this [blow whistles] in a football match.

“It’s got their team an advantage there – that can’t be right – they’re not blowing it at the other end.”
