The bookworms among you will probably be familiar with the plot of C.S. Lewis’s classic novel, The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe.

For those of you who don’t, the story follows four siblings evacuated to the countryside from London during the Blitz, who accidentally stumble upon the mythical world of Narnia through the back of a wardrobe.

Much like the Pevensie children, Millwall have also wandered into unknown surroundings.

Saturday’s win at Chesterfield saw the Lions move into the League One play-off places for the first time this season.

I must admit, it’s strange to see us in the top six.

After several years in the doldrums, I’ve become accustomed to looking down. Now, as we sit firmly in nosebleed territory, the next test will be to stay there.

Encouragingly, the team finally managed to come from a goal down to win - having not done so since the opening day against Shrewsbury.

We rode our luck at times, of course.

Judging by reports from the Proact Stadium we were lucky to go in at half-time level pegging, but whatever Neil Harris said at the break clearly did the trick.

Lee Gregory’s winner took him to 14 goals for the season in all competitions.

I’ve been critical of the Yorkshireman at times this season and it’s fair to say he still divides opinion among supporters.

The move and finish at the weekend was excellent and shows what a handful he can be when he’s up for it.

It would just be nice if he could manage to hit the target without having four or five attempts beforehand.

It was also good to see Aiden O’Brien back on the scoresheet. His equaliser, against the run of play, came courtesy of a perfectly placed cross from Shane Ferguson.

Upon writing this column, it was the Newcastle youngster’s final appearance in a Lions shirt.

However, following developments yesterday afternoon and a quick re-write, Ferguson has now become a Millwall player on a permanent basis, signing until the summer of 2017.

Harris has expressed his desire to sign the Northern Irishman for a number of weeks now, so I applaud the club for pursuing the deal.

As a winger, there are bound to be times when he floats in and out of games, but from the glimpses we’ve seen already this season, he could well become a key player over the next 18 months.

News Shopper:

With the transfer window set to shut on February 1, many supporters will be hoping for another new addition.

However, having spent most of the window trying to wrap up the Ferguson deal, I suspect the chances of a new face arriving in SE16 before Monday are slim.

If the club are able to twist Kenny Jackett’s arm, perhaps extending Jed Wallace’s loan spell from Wolves would be the next best option.

This weekend sees bottom-placed Crewe Alexandra pay a visit to the Den.

Friends of mine will know that I never make score predictions when it comes to Millwall, but I will be extremely disappointed if we don’t win this one at a canter.

Feel free to harangue me on social media when the inevitable home defeat occurs…
