Neil Harris has revealed that Millwall have made a strong bid in an attempt to sign Newcastle midfielder Shane Ferguson.

The Northern Ireland star has made 25 appearances for the Lions since joining on loan in August.

Ferguson, 24, has been an influential figure at the Den and provided Steve Morison with the assist which allowed Millwall to return from Oldham on Saturday with a 2-1 win.

The League One clash at Boundary Park was Ferguson’s last for Millwall in his loan stint, but Harris has confirmed he hopes the club can secure his services on a permanent deal.

“We have gone really strong to Newcastle and made a bid for his services. We’re just waiting in the next few days to see how that unfolds,” Harris said.

“The board are certainly backing me in trying to buy him.

“He’s done really well for us and there’s so much more to come. I would like to have him here long-term. We’re trying to keep him and if we can’t keep him long-term then we’d certainly like to keep him until the summer.

“Fergie showed his quality again today [against Oldham]. He’s got a European Championship coming up in the summer and we can make a real statement.

“We are working hard with Fergie and working hard with Newcastle to make a deal happen.”
