After Saturday’s home win against Bury, manager Neil Harris called it arguably the biggest win of the season so far. And I'm inclined to agree with him.

Shaun Williams’ early goal was enough to separate the two teams, but it was the Lions' resolute defensive display that was most pleasing.

Bury have been on an upward curve of late, adapting to League One with ease since their promotion last season.

And with a squad including the likes of Leon Clarke, Tom Soares and Chris Eagles they possess experienced players who have previously plied their trade higher up the football pyramid.

Although it was backs-to-the-wall stuff at times, the back four did well to nullify most of the threats posed by the Shakers.

Clarke was kept quiet by current centre back pairing, Byron Webster and Mark Beevers, Soares had to battle hard against Shaun Williams and George Saville, and Eagles didn't even make it off the bench - a shame in some ways, as he has become a bit of a pantomime villain at the Den in recent years.

That said, it could have been a different story had Bury’s Peter Clarke seen his second-minute header go in.

From my seat in the Cold Blow Lane end, it looked like a certain goal.

However, young Lions stopper Jordan Archer managed to scramble along his goal line to pull off a stupendous save, before punching away the rebound.

I'm reluctant to say it was ‘world class’ but it's definitely the best I've ever witnessed in real time.

I don't think I was alone in feeling a little unsure about Archer's credentials when he was handed the number one jersey at the beginning of the season.

Although the form of David Forde warranted a change of personnel, the 22 year-old’s only previous league experience came during brief loan spells at Northampton Town and Wycombe Wanderers.

Now, as the season nears its half-way point, the former Spurs youngster has cemented his place in the starting XI and has showed maturity beyond his years.

We've been blessed with some great goalkeepers at the Den over the years, as well as some rotten ones.

Alex Stepney, Bryan King, Brian Horne, Kasey Keller, Tony Warner, David Forde: all excellent servants between the sticks.

I know it is early days yet, but if Archer can maintain this kind of form - and Millwall can keep potential suitors at bay - there's no reason why he can't become another fans’ favourite.

The relentless fixture schedule continued last night as vhe Lions visited early pacesetters Burton Albion at the Pirelli Stadium.

A Tuesday night away in Staffordshire was never going to be possible for me so I had to rely on Twitter for regular updates.

It sounded like a decent performance too until a mad five-minute spell at the end of the first period which saw Burton hit two quick-fire goals.

Joe Martin did reduce the deficit with fifteen minutes remaining but ultimately we gave ourselves a mountain to climb.

We could also have done without Mark Beevers’ last-minute red card which leaves a small squad suddenly looking even smaller.

But as we've seen already this season, Harris isn't afraid to throw a few youngsters into the side, so expect to see a few new faces in the match day squad over the coming weeks.

Saturday sees a return to FA Cup action at home to Wycombe. The fixture happens to fall on my birthday and, as much as I'd love to be there, I don't think the other half would be too happy, considering she’s paid for us to go away for the weekend.

My only birthday wish is that we make it safely through to the next round. That's not too much to ask, is it?
