“Some people think football is a matter of life and death. I can assure you it is much more serious than that.”

While Liverpool legend Bill Shankly’s famous quote about the beautiful game may seem slightly extreme, for these fans it is undoubtedly more than applicable.

1. Millwall fan names newborn son ‘Bermondsey Millwall Den’

Choosing a name for your child can be a torturous process, so one bold Millwall fan has simplified the procedure by naming his newborn son Bermondsey Millwall Den Bloomfield.

Mike Bloomfield, from Bermondsey, decided on the name and returned from the registry office to tell his wife Kellie, who he says is now coming around to the idea.

“If David Beckham can name his son Brooklyn, then I can name mine Bermondsey,” Mr Bloomfield, a Lions season ticket holder, said.

Following your favourite team can be an expensive and time-consuming project, but few can claim to have made more of an effort than Southampton fan James Thornell.

Thornell, 31, travelled from Melbourne, Australia, to watch the Saints play for the first time last season.

Thornell, who has followed Southampton since watching them on television as a child, spent more than £1,000 on the 41-hour journey but fortunately saw his team demolish Sunderland 8-0 at St Mary’s.

The Australian met some of his idols after the fixture and described it as the “best day of his life”.

6. Liverpool fans call their daughter YNWA after club song

A pair of die hard Liverpool fans went viral in September after they decided to name their daughter YNWA – the abbreviation of the chant ‘You Never Walk Alone’.

The Norweigan couple had joked about the name before their child was born, but after complications with the birth resulted in an emergency caesarean operation, they decided on the name YNWA.

The iconic chant is Liverpool’s anthem, and is belted out by thousands of fans before and during matches at Anfield.

Det starta som ein spøk. Men namn skal ein ikkje spøke med, det blir fort alvor av det! #NominoNRK #YNWA
