Millwall’s youth set up has been given an overhaul with the appointment of several new coaches.

Former U18s boss Justin Skinner replaces Neil Harris as elite squad development manager, while former defender Andy Frampton returns to The Den as a development coach.

Stepping up to fill the U18s role vacated by Skinner is U16s chief Larry McAvoy, who will be assisted by ex-Ireland and Portsmouth striker David Connolly.

Millwall academy director Scott Fitzgerald told the club’s website: “We’re delighted to be able to announce these exciting changes after what was an extensive and thorough recruitment process.

“Justin has done a fantastic job since he first joined the club and many of the players he has coached are now playing week-in, week-out for the first team.

“It is great to see Andy back at Millwall.

“I know he looks back on his time at The Den with a lot of fondness and he will bring fresh ideas plus vital experience of playing for the club into his first coaching position.”

Fitzgerald added: “I've worked with Larry for a number of years now and his abilities as a coach are absolutely superb.

“He has worked incredibly hard since first moving to Millwall and the U18s position is a great platform for him to impress further.

“David is excited to get going in what is his first coaching position.

“His experience as a player is amongst the best, though, having played for many years in the top flight, as well as in Europe and on the international stage with Ireland.”

Frampton, who played 88 times for the Lions between 2007 and 2011, said: “I'm over the moon that I have the opportunity to get into coaching, but certainly to be back at Millwall as well It's a real positive thing for me.

“Hopefully my experiences at the club, which range from being pretty poor to very good, means I know what it takes to put on a Millwall shirt. Hopefully that will reflect in the way I coach the lads because I can give them an account of what it takes.”
