Neil Harris feels the onus is on Charlton to end their Millwall curse when the two rivals meet at The Den tomorrow.

The Addicks’ record against the Lions is far from inspiring – the last time they beat their neighbours was in March 1996 – but they will be favourites this time.

Charlton have won seven of their last nine Championship fixtures, while Millwall go into the game seven points adrift of safety.

Harris was asked this morning by News Shopper if his side’s overall record in this fixture means anything, something he denied by instead pointing out it is now down to the SE7 visitors to change it.

“No, I think it is more something for them to look at as a hoodoo for Charlton to break,” the caretaker Lions boss replied.

“What Guy Luzon has done there has been phenomenal to be fair with the number of wins he has had in recent games.

“We are looking forward to the fact we are going to be facing a really competitive Charlton side that are in-form because it has all the makings for me of a top local derby.

“I think past results count for nothing.

“We are aware of how they play and the attacking threat they possess. We have a game plan to deal with that of course but we also focus our concentration on what we can achieve.”

The international break means it will be almost a fortnight since each side last played, with Harris desperate to get back out on the pitch as soon as possible.

He said: “I cannot wait, the players can’t wait.

“When we got over the initial disappointment of not winning against Brentford - who are a top, top team – once we reminded the players about how well we had played and what we had achieved in that game, the focus went straight on to Charlton.

“That’s not just myself and Livers, that’s the whole group.

“The buzz around the training ground is fantastic, very positive and everyone is just looking forward to this game.

“It is the perfect game for us in some ways – a local derby with a big crowd.

“Charlton are coming here in good form so we know we’ve got to be at a high standard to compete, but that adrenalin and excitement we’ve got as a group at the moment means we can’t wait to get out on the pitch tomorrow.”

Harris is no stranger to the fixture having played in it before, although he will explain in more depth to his players what to expect as 3pm tomorrow draws closer.

He explained: “I’ve already mentioned what it is like briefly, although I think that becomes more relevant just before the game leading up to kick-off when I’ll be reminding the players not just what it means to them but to the everyone connected to the club  as well.

“It is local bragging rights.

“People go to work and a lot of people I know work with Charlton supporters.

“The banter is there but the fans want bragging rights.

“We can earn our fans those rights by performing on Friday and we can lay down a marker to our fan-base to show this is what we are doing and this is how far we’ve come.”

Former Addick Nicky Bailey returns to the squad along with Alan Dunne, while Harris will make a last minute decision on Lee Martin’s fitness.
