Lee Martin believes referee Darren Deadman got the game’s big decision wrong in Tuesday night’s 2-2 draw with Blackburn.

On-loan Stoke defender Andy Wilkinson was sent off just after the hour for a foul on Ben Marshall which prompted the two managers to square up, with Ian Holloway not happy with the Blackburn bench’s reaction to the challenge.

Despite the numerical disadvantage, the Lions still impressively fought back from 2-0 down to rescue a point with Martin halving the deficit before Shaun Williams’ stunning late equaliser.

But it was the controversial decision to give Wilkinson his marching orders which left the winger less than impressed afterwards.

Martin said: “It was a 50-50 ball and I said that at the time - I said it to the referee.

“He was quite content with officiating off the field rather than on it at the time, I was just saying to get on there and get on with it.

“It was one of those.

“You have to take into consideration the weather and a sliding pitch, both players are committed for a ball.

“I will have to watch it back to give you a full verdict, but I thought it was a little harsh.

“It was a coming together and I suppose you can’t do anything nowadays without getting sent off.”

Holloway was sent to the stands soon after Rudy Gestede put Blackburn 2-0 up and Martin felt the referee could again have dealt with the situation more effectively.

He said: “I think the referee made it a bigger deal than it actually was.

“Again the fourth official is in his ear, so he probably could have done a bit better on that front.”

Despite feeling aggrieved with the officials’ decisions on Tuesday, Martin believes the players learned from Saturday’s defeat against Watford.

He said: “We knew we had to keep our mouths shut and get on with it.

“We seem to be getting bad decisions going against us but we have just got to get on with it.

“As players, we can’t keep moaning and wasting our energy.

“At half-time on Saturday we were all zapped from being so angry with the officials and there is no point.

“You are better off saving that energy and putting it out on the pitch.”

Millwall host Brentford on Saturday and Martin is under no illusions it will be another difficult game.

He said: “I think they will be like any other team in this league - competitive and a good footballing side.

“I saw them a couple of seasons back and they looked good then.

“I am sure they have kept to that style so it will be a difficult game but one we are looking to win.”
