Charlton striker Igor Vetokele is set to battle it out with Millwall captain Alan Dunne for the August Championship player of the month award.
Summer signing Vetokele has been in fine form since arriving in SE7 from FC Copenhagen, scoring five times in the Addicks’ unbeaten start to the league campaign.
Alan Dunne sees a shot blocked against Blackpool on Saturday
Former full-back Dunne has been a revelation since moving to the centre of Millwall’s defence alongside Mark Beevers, with the Lions conceding just three goals in the opening five games of the season, a huge improvement on last year.
And it could be a double celebration for Millwall as Ian Holloway is also in the running for August’s manager of the month honour, facing competition from Stuart Pearce (Forest), Neil Adams (Norwich) and former Den chief Kenny Jackett (Wolves).
Vetokele and Dunne’s rivals for the player of the month gong are Nottingham Forest winger Michail Antonio and Blackburn midfielder Tom Cairney.
The winners will be announced tomorrow morning.
