Millwall’s unbeaten start to the campaign was ended by Rotherham United’s 1-0 victory at The Den this afternoon.

A largely forgettable affair was settled by Ben Pringle’s decisive strike four minutes after the break to ensure Steve Evans’ side returned to Yorkshire with a maximum haul.

Ricardo Fuller had the Lions’ best chance with a first half header which was glanced agonisingly wide by the veteran striker.

But Millwall threatened little in the final third and can have few complaints with the final outcome.

Millwall manager Ian Holloway

We didn’t function like we have been and I felt I should have made more changes having had hindsight and looked at the game.

I thought my attackers looked a bit tired and not quite as effective as they have been to be honest.

And when we needed some legs to sprint in behind and to move it as the moves were building we didn’t do that.

We’ve created one chance on target out of 60 percent possession, which hasn’t been like us really.

We’ve got 16 crosses in and Ricky (Fuller) has got his head on a couple and he has missed the target.

Fundamentally that should have been 0-0, but they’ve created three chances on target, they’ve scored from one of them.

I knew how tough it would be because my scout told me they didn’t deserve to lose to Watford the other day.

They played better than them, they’ve got a great system and they are all used to winning.

I thought we were, they’ve stopped that.

We didn’t defend the cross well enough so that is it. Sometimes in life you’ve got to hold your hand up – that was just not as good as we’ve been but it still wasn’t that bad either to be honest.

Such is life, we’ve got to start another run now but really it is down to the strength in depth of the squad.

Can I make some changes?

Could I have made a few more changes?

Would it have affected us any more?

I wanted to reward them, we were on such a good roll, such a great euphoria of the other evening.

Maybe I should have made three, four, five more changes for this game.

That’s what you do, you live and die by your decisions.

Maybe I got that one wrong because one or two of them actually felt not the same sort of energy.

They didn’t mean to do it, that’s just the way it is.
