Millwall defender Byron Webster can’t wait to put one over hometown club Leeds United at The Den on Saturday.

The 27-year-old summer signing from Yeovil was on the Yorkshire side’s books as a youngster but didn’t make the grade at Elland Road, eventually launching his professional career with York City.

Meetings between the Lions and Saturday’s opponents are always feisty affairs, something Webster is already fully aware of.

“There’s an added spice playing against Leeds,” the defender acknowledged.

“I’m from Leeds, so I'm looking forward to that one.

“Nowadays in the Championship there are that many ex-Premier League teams that they are all enjoyable games.

“We had that at my previous club Yeovil - we were favourites to go down to League One and we got promoted to the Championship.

“Finances obviously help, but if you have a good core of a team and a good manager that can put his way of playing across, then you have every chance.”

“It’s XI against XI, so you have play well and hopefully you pick up the points.

“It’s all about consistency in this league, so as long as you have the consistency you have a chance.”

Webster also praised the effect manager Ian Holloway has already had on him during his short time at the club.

“I’ve enjoyed everything and learnt a lot,” he said.

“The manager has his way of playing, so I’m taking new things in and the boys are fantastic. It has been very positive.

“He's (Ollie) been brilliant, everything you see on the television is exactly east he's like.

“He’s a very passionate manager, he's very enthusiastic and he wants to put his footballing style and philosophy over to us

“The training we've done has been specific to his way of playing, so it has been very good.”

Webster revealed not being guaranteed a first team spot is a positive and means all of the squad will be fighting tooth and nail to remain in the starting XI.

“When I first met the gaffer he told me I'm not guaranteed a place,” he explained.

“Everyone will be fighting of their position in the team.

“If Paul Robinson and Danny Shittu start, there are people behind them that are pushing and if they don't perform there’s always someone else that can take their position.

“But there’s competition for places all over the pitch and we have the quality.

“The aim is to win every game and at the end of the season we will see where we are.”

Webster added: “I’ll always give 100 percent, I like to get the ball down and play - I like to win.

“The fans nowadays want to see 100 percent from every player and I think that’s one thing that all fans will agree on.

“If you've got that bit of flair and talent to go with it that helps.

“But as long as everyone gives 100 percent and works hard for the team that’s a big thing.”
