Magaye Gueye is relishing the prospect of playing football again with Millwall after struggling to make an impact at Everton.

The 24-year-old Frenchman was only selected once for the Toffees last season and revealed he turned down offers from abroad to sign for the Lions.

And the attacker who signed a one-year-deal at the end of July is thankful for Lions manager Ian Holloway and their relationship in helping settle his off the field issues which dogged his four-year spell on Merseyside.

“The problem was I had a very bad experience outside football,” Gueye admitted.

“Everything is out now and the manager and the club helped me a lot, so now I’m just focused on football.”

And Gueye revealed it was Holloway’s negotiating skills which lured him down to London.

He added: “I had a lot of clubs after me before I came here.

“I chose Millwall because of the manager.

“He is a very good person and I trust him.

“I had some clubs from France, from England and Turkey after me but the relationship I have with Ian Holloway is very good.”

Gueye felt he was never given a clear reason why he wasn’t playing by Everton but is optimistic under Holloway he can do his talking on the pitch.

“For me I never had a chance to have it confirmed when I was playing and that’s what I need,” he explained.

“That’s why I came here - because the manager trusts me.

“The Everton fans liked me, but it was misunderstood with me and the club, the people from the club.

“I’m a player and I don’t talk too much, I prefer to act and not talk.

“That’s why I don’t really talk to press or anything - I prefer to be on the pitch and show what I can do.

“The manager knows me before.

“I played against him when he was at Blackpool, he knows me.

“He just told me to be free, relax and play the way I play and just play football.”
