Marc Bircham says Millwall are focusing on themselves rather than QPR ahead of Saturday’s crucial clash against his former side.

Bircham spent over a decade at Loftus Road as both a player and a coach before he joined former Hoops manager Ian Holloway’s coaching staff at Millwall in January.

Although he knows Harry Redknapp’s side well, Bircham believes the key to picking up a result in west London is for the Lions to concentrate on their own game.

He said: “Really with our form if we just concentrate on ourselves, our own formation, our own structure and then let the other teams worry about us.

“I know that’s big talk coming from a team near the bottom of the league, but that’s just the way we have been doing it and the way we've been playing, so we just want to carry it on.”

Bircham, though, will be making everyone fully aware of the threat posed by the Hoops being ideally qualified to do so with his own recent QPR connections.

He said: “I will be using my own knowledge about the players and it probably helps us because there is so many lads there I have worked with and known for a long time.

“We’ve already done a player profile pack, which we do on most teams, but I could have just sat down and done that off the top of my head because I do know most of them.

“Hopefully that will come in handy.”

QPR have already secured a play-off spot and Bircham is aware some of their players might be saving themselves for those big upcoming games.

He said: “I think it is good news because it doesn't matter what you say, as a player once you've secured yourselves in the play-offs, subconsciously you will worry if you get knocked or there might be that 50-50 tackle.

“Some players will be thinking about maybe saving themselves for the play-offs.

“It’s a bit similar to when we played Wigan recently when they had an FA Cup semi-final coming up at the weekend.

“I saw some of them in a couple of tackles where maybe subconsciously they did not go into it 110 percent.”

Ian Holloway has been away from the training ground today suffering with illness, although Bircham is confident the Millwall manager will be fully recovered for the QPR trip.

“He’ll be alright, he's just a bit under the weather.

“It was just a precaution really to get him away so he doesn’t affect any of the other players.”
