Jackett wants Millwall to build on Palace point

MILLWALL manager Kenny Jackett urged his side to capitalise on today’s 2-2 draw at Crystal Palace with wins over Birmingham and Huddersfield at The Den this week.

The Lions boss felt the point at Selhurst Park will prove to be a good result if his team can back it up with wins at home.

Jackett said: “We just have to keep focusing on our own team now because we are four games unbeaten and we have got a point away from home.

“It looks a good point if you win your home games.

“We have to capitalise now against Birmingham and Huddersfield when we go back to The Den.

“Just before the international break we came back to The Den and beat Bolton and points look good if you follow them up with a home victory.”

Jackett was happy with the way his team fought back from 2-0 down to earn a draw at high-flying Palace as goals from Liam Trotter and Mark Beevers saved Millwall from defeat.

“I was very pleased with the players for coming back from 2-0 down away from home,” said the manager.

“We played well showed plenty of heart and courage and no little quality.

“The second half was a dominant performance.

“We went full width with Liam Feeney and Chris Taylor on the wings and we persevered against a very resilient Palace side and got back into the game.

“We were 2-0 down away from home and it was 11 versus 11 and the goal just before half-time, as well as the sending off, really galvanised us for what was a dominant second-half performance.”

There were 10 bookings, a sending off and a penalty during the match and Jackett felt Peter Ramage should have also seen red for a trip on Darius Henderson in the first half.

He said: “It was a trip and the referee didn’t give it because he would have had to give a red card.

“It was a competitive, full-blooded London derby and we didn’t expect anything different.

“It was always going to be tight and it was a great atmosphere today, the two-and-a-half-thousand Millwall fans played a big part in that.”

Jackett ruled James Henry out of Tuesday night’s clash with Birmingham but is hopeful he will feature next weekend against Huddersfield.

“We are hoping he will be fit for Saturday but he will not be fit for Tuesday,” the boss added.

“He had a tight hamstring and didn’t get back in time.

“He’s not a player that we are going to rush back but on the plus side I was pleased to see Feeney back because wide right is a strong position for us and Chris Taylor, for his first start, had a good game.”
