DOUGIE Freedman admits he would be shocked if he didn’t receive bids for any of his players before the transfer window slams shut next Wednesday.

The Scotsman is already fielding phone calls from Premiership managers interested in Crystal Palace’s exciting crop of youngsters, but as yet no formal bids have materialised and that’s exactly how the Palace boss hopes it stays.

“I don’t know that, it’s a difficult one to read a phone call,” replied Freedman when asked if he expected bids for his players.

“But I would expect one or two phone calls for my players because we are doing alright and when you’re doing okay you get these phone calls.

“I have had managers call me up and ask me about my young players but they’ve just been a general chat.

“No bids have come in but I would be shocked if something didn’t happen.

“But I would gladly walk away on Wednesday at 11 o’clock with hopefully nothing happening with outgoings.”

Freedman also revealed he is happy with his squad and no longer actively searching for additions.

But the boss admits if the right player became available, he would make his case to the board.

He explained: “I’ve got what I’ve got and that’s what I will go with.

“If something comes up and it is attractive in terms of adding to the squad and it’s the right deal for the club then of course I will look at it.

“I’m not actively out there searching for positions, I feel that we’ve got a decent squad.

“We feel as a club that slow progress is the way forward.

“The directors and the board have been fantastic and if anything has been the right value for money, then they’ve always done it.

“If something comes up, I’ll go to them but right now nobody wants to sell young, hungry players and that’s what I’m after.

“We’ve got to produce young players with hard work on the training ground and you will continue seeing the likes of Johnny Williams, who had a fantastic debut at 17-years of age.

“That’s what we’ve got to do. We are a club on the up with young hungry players and if I think they’re good enough I’ll put them in.

“But if anything comes up in the market that I feel will help the squad then I will go to the board and we will see what happens, but I’m not actively out there looking for someone.”
