CRYSTAL Palace manager Dougie Freedman has downplayed suggestions of an imminent swoop for Rob Earnshaw.

The Welsh international striker is a free agent after being released by Nottingham Forest and has since been linked with a move to the Eagles.

But when asked if Earnshaw was a likely target, Freedman told News Shopper: “No, there’s no truth in that yet.

“There are a lot of names in the hat but he’s not one.”

However, Freedman admits there are a couple of potential free transfer signings in the pipeline.

He added: “Last year we didn’t have a manager and we were really picking up the scraps with free transfers.

“This time round we’ve been really active and lined up two or three that will maybe happen in the next week or so, which will hopefully put some excitement back into the club.

“I feel we’ve got one of the best free transfers outside the Premier League in Glenn Murray, who scored 20 odd goals in a team which won their league.

“He’s obviously thought of very highly and I felt it was a very good coup to get a free transfer of that quality straight away.

“As I say, I have got two or three free transfers lined up that will hopefully come off.”

Freedman also revealed there were not any offers on the table for any of Palace’s contracted squad members at the minute.

“Nobody has made any firm bids at all for any of the players so far,” the Eagles chief said.

“There’s been small interest in taking some players on loan but that won’t happen until mid-July.”
