WELLING player-manager Jamie Day believes his promotion-chasing side can still catch Conference South leaders Woking.
The Wings moved up to second in the Conference South table last night after beating Salisbury 4-3 but trail Woking by three points after an impressive start to the campaign by the Surrey side, who also have a game in hand.
And although impressed by what the Cards have achieved so far, Day is hopeful Welling can exploit any slip-ups by the current leaders.
He said: “They’ve got a good squad and are a big club.
“There is a bit of a gap at the moment but we’ve already beaten them 3-2 at our place.
“Woking have only lost one game so far but they will drop points at some stage of the season.
“When they do, we’ve got to make sure we are in a position to take full advantage.”
He added: “I’m pleased with the start to the season so far.
“We’ve won 11 games and lost three.
“Overall it has been a very good effort and we need to keep it going.”
Welling will be looking to build on their fine start this Saturday when they face eighth-placed Boreham Wood at Park View Road at 3pm.
Day said: “They’ve already beaten us this season at their place, so it is going to be a tough game.
“We are at home this time and this will be a benefit to us.”
