FORMER Millwall midfielder Danny Spiller is set to sign for Dagenham & Redbridge.

Spiller was released by the Lions in the summer after an injury-ravaged two year spell at The Den and played for Welling United in Saturday’s 2-0 defeat against Newport County.

However, his stay at Park View Road was only a very brief one as Spiller confirmed to News Shopper he expects to join League Two outfit Dagenham this week.

He said: “My agent spoke to John Still and he showed an interest.

“I’m pleased because I was left in a difficult position trying to get a deal after being told by Kenny Jackett to come back for pre-season training.

“He said if I came back fit then I could earn a new deal at Millwall.

“For one reason or another he decided to change his mind, so effectively I was let go twice by Millwall.

“Thankfully Dagenham have come in and I’m hoping to play for them this Saturday.”

Spiller was also keen to thank Welling boss Andy Ford for giving him a 90 minute run-out last weekend.

He said: “It was for one game to give me some match action because I’ve been struggling with injuries for the last 18 months.

“I did it as a favour for Andy as he knows my brother quite well.

“We had a little chat and I agreed to do it because Dagenham had no objections.”
