EBBSFLEET went down to defeat against Alfreton Town last night at Stonebridge Road.

Fleet came out of the blocks quickly with Neil Barrett’s header was kept out by a reflex save from Jon Stewart within four minutes before the hosts got their noses in front three minutes later.

Gozie Ugwu played a pass through for Liam Enver-Marum, who broke away from the defence and finished in clinical fashion.

The home side continued their dominant start when Enver-Marum saw his effort from the saved before Barrett failed to connect properly with Craig Stone’s cross on the half hour.

However, the visitors began to settle and equalised 10 minutes before the break when Adam Cunnington headed in Josh Law’s corner.

The second half provided very little for Ebbsfleet as they struggled to turn their possession into chances.

Second half substitute Jamie Mullan proved threatening for the away side and after his shot led to a corner, the visitors took the lead.

The cleared ball fell to Law who found space at the edge of the area and fired past Cronin three minutes after the restart.

Alfreton had a chance to increase their advantage in the 72nd minute, but Cunnington saw his shot come agonisingly close, just clipping the outside of the post Ebbsfleet came close to equalising when substitute Nathaniel Pinney drove into the box, but he saw his shot flash across the goal with a little help from the fingertip’s of Stewart.
