DARTFORD eased through to the next stage of the Kent Senior Cup with a comfortable win over Tonbridge Angels on Tuesday.

There was a time when the KSC was worth winning and older supporters will recall Peter Taylor nutmegging Tony Pamphlett at Priestfield en-route to a 1-0 final win over Third Division Maidstone United in the late 1980s.

Since then, KCFA member clubs have deemed the senior trophy should be treated as the premier county competition.

This may be one reason why the county's top clubs tend to use KSC ties as a workout for fringe players.

Whatever, Darts made changes from the side which won a comprehensive victory over Farnborough the previous Saturday.

Deren Ibrahim was given a run out in goal and performed very well, while online favourite Adam Burchell was given another chance to strut his stuff against decent opposition.

In truth, it wasn't a great spectacle and Darts won comfortably enough with second half goals from Danny Harris and in-form Charlie Sheringham who, in a cameo performance, scored a carbon copy of his second against Farnborough.

Tonbridge went forward right from the off, spurred on by ex-Hastings star Ade Olurunda, forcing Ibrahim to make some smart saves.

In fact, the visitors had the lion’s share of the play, which gave Darts' re-aligned defence the opportunity to gel.

On the hour the game was settled when a dummy run free-kick routine involving Lee Noble and Ryan Hayes saw the latter deliver the ball deep into the Angels' area and Harris swept a shot past Lee Worgan.

Substitute Sheringham killed off the tie in the dying moments.
