10:45am Sunday 29th January 2012 in Cray By Jerry Dowlen
PETER GORINGE writes: Cray and the Ks shared the spoils in an evenly contested game at Hayes Lane.
Kingstonian had the best chances of a tight first half.
On 26 minutes Ryan Woods thumped a 25-yarder against the bar, and three minutes before the break Sam Clayton cut in from the left and jinked his way past Cray 'keeper Andy Walker, only to be denied by two desperate goal line clearances.
And on the stroke of time the visitors missed out again when Woods fired wide from twelve yards having been set up by Matthew Pattison's cross.
The second period was a different story as Cray's slick passing posed a constant threat.
Danny Phillips caught the eye for Cray in midfield, while Sam Long made strong runs to try and penetrate the Ks defence.
On 54 minutes Rob Tolfrey dived low to his left to prevent the dangerous Long shooting Cray into the lead.
Long's cross from the left should have seen Cray break the deadlock, but Tommy Whitnell failed to connect with the goal at his mercy.
Another surging run by Long into the box ended with his shot being deflected for a corner-kick, and Whitnell sliced his effort wide when the ball came to him from a ricochet in the 75th minute.
Cray: Walker, S Long, Bentley, Saunders, Vines, Sterling, Whitnell, Perkins, Bremner, Phillips, Clark. Subs not used: Parkinson, Young, A Long, Dolby, Power.
Attendance: 254 Cray are at home to Lowestoft Town next Sunday 5 February (3pm).
