Cray Wanderers 1-3 Wealdstone

Wealdstone ended Cray’s run of five consecutive home wins, scoring three late goals that turned the game around at a windswept Hayes Lane.

Cray were holding a 41st minute lead after a lively first half when chances came regularly at both ends of the field.

Cray were first to threaten after the kick-off, but Des Boateng had two shots blocked, and Stones' 'keeper Sean Thomas denied George Porter with a good save.

Callum Martin headed over an open goal as Wealdstone began opening up the Cray defence.

Tony Kessell made a spectacular diving save to push out a 35-yard piledriver from Lee Chappell after the Cray 'keeper had sliced a free-kick into the path of the Stones defender.

Porter looked to be Cray’s biggest attacking threat, and received some rough treatment from the visiting defence.

A free-kick for a foul on Porter led to the opening goal four minutes before half time. Colin Luckett swung in the kick and the ball was scrimmaged away to Boateng, in centre midfield 25 yards out. His carefully-placed shot rattled the woodwork, and the rebound fell kindly for Leigh Bremner to put the ball into the net.

The first chance after the interval was created by Cray, who started aggressively. Lewis Wood regained possession after his flick-header split the visiting defence, but Thomas was out smartly to block his shot with his legs.

That proved to be a turning point in the game, as Cray gradually faded in attack.

Shortly after a double substitution by the visitors in the 63rd minute, they drew level when Martin cut in from the left and his low cross was tapped in by Jamie Osborne.

Three minutes later Cray were behind. The Wands disputed a throw-in decision and were caught flat-footed as Danny Spendlove ran through and pushed the ball into the bottom corner.

Marcus Cassius came on to try and get the Cray forward line moving again, but the Stones’ defence stayed solid.

Spendlove was shoved to the ground and Martin netted from the penalty-spot to complete Cray’s misery in the 85th minute.

Cray team: Kessell, Moncur (Cassius 74), Luckett, Quinn, Willy, Day, Porter, Tyne, L Wood, Bremner, Boateng (Bellamy 55). Subs not used: J Wood, Guest, Jenkins.

Cray are away to Fisher Athletic in the London Senior Cup on Monday night at Dulwich Hamlet FC (7.45pm).
