BROMLEY ended a dismal run of 16 games without a victory in Somerset on Saturday with a fine and comprehensive victory over Weston-super-Mare.
And it was double joy for the Lillywhites, Saturday’s success being ample revenge for a 7-0 drubbing in the same fixture last season.
Weston, who were sixth in the table going into the match, never recovered from going behind in the third minute.
Albert Jarrett made an instant impact on his Bromley debut by making ground on the left to cross for the unmarked Hakeem Araba to place a header past keeper Lloyd Irish.
Tutu Henriques headed off the line from Kane Ingram two minutes later at the other end and the Ingram just failed to get a touch to Sahr Kabba’s cross on 15 minutes which would surely had led to an equaliser had he done so.
Another Bromley newcomer Anthony Thomas shot just over before Ali Fuseini dispossessed Jamie Laird, only to shoot wide with only Irish to beat.
In between these two chances, Liam Harwood did well to head away from underneath the bar Ingram’s deflected shot.
Thomas missed a chance to put Bromley further ahead after eight minutes of the second half when he turned his marker only to shoot straight at Irish, but three minutes later it was 2-0.
Danny Waldren fed Araba from the halfway line before the striker lobbed a pass over a defender into the path of Thomas, who made no mistake from 12 yards.
Thomas deserved better just after the hour mark when he was denied a certain goal by a fine save from Irish following a flowing movement which involved himself, Jarrett and Marlon Patterson.
Liam Harwood and Araba both tested the keeper a few moments later before Weston went close on 70 minutes when Jamie Price’s shot was saved by Joe Welch’s outstretched legs.
And the Bromley keeper had to back-peddle frantically as Ben Cleverley’s free-kick nearly caught him napping to drop just over the bar.
Bromley’s afternoon was complete on 80 minutes when Pierre Joseph-Dubois capitalised on a misdirected back header from Weston’s Laird to round Irish and fire into an empty net.
With results elsewhere going their way, Bromley move out of the relegation places with this victory in what was a much-improved performance than has been the case in recent matches.
Bromley are at home to Havant & Waterlooville on Saturday, kick-off 3pm.
