BROMLEY put the brakes on a nine-game losing run by drawing with Dorchester on a bitterly cold night at Hayes Lane.

It was a vastly improved performance by Bromley in front of their lowest league gate (223) of the season, as the two teams cancelled each other out for much of the game.

The visitors started the brighter of the two teams, forcing Liam Harwood to head clear a dangerous looking cross from underneath the crossbar in the eighth minute, while Bromley’s keeper Tommy Forecast had to punch away an in-swinging corner from Steve Devlin a few minutes later.

Harwood was unlucky at the other end as his downward header from Orlando Smith’s corner was just inches the wrong side of the upright.

As Bromley began to enjoy more of the play, a good passing movement involving Lewis Taylor and Smith resulted in Rory Hill turning his shot past the post on 31 minutes before Hakeem Araba’s header from Taylor’s corner went over the bar four minutes later.

As the first half ended a delightful through ball by Smith inside two defenders found Hill in space in the area, but Dorchester’s keeper Alan Walker-Harris was alert to the situation and just got to the ball a split second before Hill.

The second half started in a similar fashion to the opening period, with the visitors creating the first chance in the 53rd minute when a 30-yard free-kick from Kyle Critchell bounced in front of Forecast, who did well to eventually scramble the danger away.

Bromley responded when Smith saw his shot blocked by a defender at the expense of a corner following a penetrating run by Taylor.

From the flag-kick, the ball broke to Freddie Warren, whose shot on the turn found the side netting.

Following a defensive mix up on 62 minutes, Ben Dickenson found himself in a one-to-one with Forecast but the Dorchester front runner shot wildly over with only the keeper to beat.

The three points could have gone either way in the closing stages, as firstly Taylor’s header was palmed away by Walker-Harris from substitute Aaron Rhule’s cross before Forecast did well to stretch himself to pluck Crittenden’s goal-bound chip out of the air moments later.

A draw was probably the right result on the night, but it must be a relief to the Hayes Lane club their losing run has at last come to an end, albeit with a draw.
