Bromley 1-2 Cray Wanderers

Joe Dolan (number five) puts Bromley in front Joe Dolan (number five) puts Bromley in front

BROMLEY went down to a ninth straight league and cup defeat when they were dumped out of the London Senior Cup by tenants Cray Wanderers on Sunday.

Fielding a team of mainly trialists and academy prospects, with a sprinkling of players with first team experience, Bromley had the better of the first half exchanges.

They deservedly went ahead on 29 minutes when a corner from the right was headed on and Joe Dolan came in at the back post to place a close range header into the roof of the net.

Prior to this Mike Jones and Orlando Smith had wasted good chances in the early stages before Cray’s Danny Phillips’s shot was turned around the post by Bromley keeper Paul Agu in the 13th minute.

Loanee Ibra Sekajja then went close with two efforts, firstly being denied by former Bromley keeper Andy Walker after being put through by Smith before his header was cleared off the line by a defender.

After the goal, Sekajja created a chance for himself but screwed a shot wide, while his half volley rebounded back off the upright following a cross from Smith a minute before half-time.

Sandwiched in between these two efforts Dolan was on hand to clear off the line a close range effort following a Cray corner.

Cray were more determined in the second half and Alex Bentley grazed the bar with a 52nd minute in-swinging corner.

They were back on terms four minutes later. With Agu off his line, Lewis Perkins tried his luck with a 35-yard lob which crashed back off the bar straight to Michael Power, who promptly squeezed the ball home at the keeper’s left hand post.

Nothing changes at Bromley, even if the team did. Rob Hughes gave possession away to Bentley in the centre circle and two passes later it was in the back of Bromley’s net.

Bentley fed Tyrone Sterling on the left flank and his first-time cross found the back of the net by way of Perkins’ glancing header on 66 minutes.

A series of substitutions in the closing stages did little to inspire the Bromley faithful, although Taylor Parmenter forced Walker into a diving save with five minutes remaining.

But it was Cray who comfortably saw out the victory to add further gloom over their landlords.
