BROMLEY slumped to yet another defeat at the Crabble Ground on Saturday afternoon when Dover Athletic romped to a resounding victory.

Having won at Hayes Lane in October, Dover completely outplayed a Bromley side who were devoid of ideas, organisation and cohesion.

All of Dover’s goals came in the opening 31 minutes and were each a result of individual errors on the part of defenders. The first came in the opening minute when Moses Swaibu, back at the Bromley after two seasons, gave possession away to James Walker.

As the rest of the Lillywhites defence stood off, the front-runner went on to fire a 20-yard shot wide of the exposed keeper Tommy Forecast.

Bromley fell further behind on 12 minutes when Bradley Goldberg was dispossessed in the centre of the park and George Purcell went on to send a rasping shot past Forecast.

The visitors’ first attack came 10 minutes later as a Lewis Taylor clearance was knocked down by Hakeem Araba to Goldberg, whose shot was placed straight at Mikhael Jaimez-Ruiz.

It got worse for Bromley as they went further behind on 26 minutes when a cross-field clearance by Liam Harwood went straight to Purcell, who promptly took two paces before hammering the a shot beyond a bewildered Forecast from 25 yards.

Five minutes later, Purcell completed his hat-trick with another gift. Swaibu lost possession, even though it looked to many he had been fouled, and the ball broke to Purcell who fired home through a crowd of players into the far corner of the net.

Forecast saved at point blank range from Glen Southam a few minutes later before Goldberg’s shot just before the interval lacked power.

The second half was almost a non-event, although Bromley did have more of the ball but their possession did not lead to any efforts on goal.

Dover were content to sit on their lead and rely on the occasional break away, although Bromley should have reduced the arrears on the hour when Rory Hill broke clear down the left hand.

As Jaimez-Ruiz advanced on Hill, he slipped a pass inside to Goldberg, who mis-kicked in front of an open goal from five yards out.

Dover should have increased their lead on 71 minutes when Purcell was put in on goal, but Forecast did just enough to force the striker to shoot wide of the post.

The keeper did well to deny Walker with his legs after the forward had broken clear on goal before Forecast brilliantly tipped around Barry Cogan’s flick on from a free-kick wide on the right.

Cogan and Purcell both missed good opportunities to increase the lead in quick succession before Bromley managed a consolation with five minutes remaining.

A clever Freddie Warren pass picked out Hill who was clattered to the ground by a defender just as he lobbed the advancing keeper.

Although the effort looked to be heading for the net, Araba nipped in to get the final touch just to make sure.

Bromley have now conceded 26 goals in this run of eight consecutive defeats and it is quite obvious until they get this problem settled they will continue to suffer defeats against teams they should be taking points from.
