BROMLEY boss Mark Goldberg felt Charlton should have been reduced to ten men in his sides' 3-2 defeat in the Kent Senior Cup last night.
Addicks youngster Harry Lennon looked to have got a bit of the ball after hauling down Hakeem Araba, and despite the big striker tucking home the spot kick, Goldberg believed the referee needed to keep things fair.
"Anybody could have seen their guy was the last man, and I'm not wishing a player to be sent off, but you just want the fair run of the dice with the referee," said the manager.
"And with the last goal, our goalkeeper wasn't able to jump because he was man-handled and the referee just didn't have an answer to me at the end.
"It just unfortunately shows what happens when referee's tend to defend the football league clubs rather than the smaller clubs.
"We deserved better, our players deserved better and our supporters deserved better, and in the end it was 3-2 and we can take some pride in our performance, but it's about time we got what we deserved because I don't think we have recently."
Charlton sent a youthful side to Hayes Lane and included three first-team squad members in Gary Doherty, Bradley Pritchard and Paul Benson, but all three goalscorers were under the age of 19.
And Bromley were quite lucky to go into half-time with just the one goal conceded, but Goldberg admitted he changed it around at the break, and it seemed to do the trick as they came back to level twice against the Addicks XI.
"I think it's fair to say we were fortunate to go in at the break 1-0 down, we had to change things around at half-time and we went with a different formation in the second-half," revealed the boss.
"We started very brightly and I think in the second-half we had more goalscoring opportunities than Charlton and I think we played with some good possession.
"Maybe a neutral might question whether we were a few leagues below, although I know they put out a very young side.
"All credit to our lads and in the end, a draw would have been a deserved result as far as we're concerned, but it's just so disappointing with that penalty decision not to send the player off when he was the last man."
And the manager is hoping striker Araba will be fit to play on Saturday after picking up a knock in the second-half.
"I thought as the game went on, he caused them a lot of problems and his touch was better," said Goldberg. "He tucked away the penalty well, but unfortunately he's taken a bit of a bruise to his leg and we hope he's fit for Saturday.
"We had two or three players that haven't been able to get in our side that came in against Charlton and in the end, gave a good account of themselves and they're only 19-years-old."
