BROMLEY completed a league double over relegation threatened Worcester City at Hayes Lane on Saturday thanks to a Warren McBean brace.
McBean took his tally to 20 goals for the season, although the striker still remains on the transfer list.
Without the four regular members of the squad who had been released since Bromley’s last game, there was a debut in goal for England U17 international Wesley Foderingham, who is on loan at Hayes Lane from Fulham until the end of the season.
He had an excellent game and was quickly off his line in the fourth minute to block Matt Dinsmore’s attempt after a Bromley defender had given possession away on the edge of the area.
With defences on top, scoring opportunities for both sides were initially at a premium, but Gary Walker shot over the bar and Josh Emery had a volley deflected either side of the half hour mark.
Bromley had a blatant penalty appeal turned down on 34 minutes when Richard Butler was put through on goal by a long clearance from Tutu Henriques.
As he entered the 18-yard box, Butler was clearly pushed from behind by centre half Wayne Daniel, but the match official waved play on despite being in a good position.
Bromley opened the scoring on 41 minutes when they turned defence into attack.
Rob Gillman broke up an attack on the touchline before hooking a clearance towards the centre circle, where a stretching Daniels could only back head towards his own goal. McBean set off to outpace the defender Jamie Price before rounding keeper Danzelle St Louis Hamilton and wrong-footing Price, who had got back to the goal line.
The home side increased their lead in the 56th minute when a defensive error gifted possesion to Ashley Carew, who quickly despatched a pass for McBean to run onto before slipping a shot under St Louis Hamilton.
McBean might have had his hat-trick three minutes later when Carew’s raking crossfield pass picked out Steve Ferguson, but the Bromley striker was slow to react to Ferguson’s pinpoint cross and the ball was safely cleared up field.
Worcester substitute Jack Connolly should have done better on 70 minutes when he met Price’s inswinging corner from the right, but his poor header did not cause the Bromley keeper any problems.
Another similar corner kick from Price was cleared off the line by Harrison Dunk, who had returned to the team following his injury sustained at Dorchester Town a few weeks ago.
Carew had a free-kick saved before the game fell away rather badly.
In the 90th minute, Foderingham stood his ground well to make a great double block from Ryan Burge and Alfie Carter following a goalmouth scramble.
Gillman hacked the ball to safety to give Bromley back-to-back home victories for only the third time this season.
Bromley: Foderingham, Fray, Dunk, Daly, Henriques, Gillman, Ferguson, Carew, McBean, Butler (Farrar 60), Hall (Ibrahima 13). Subs not used: Manning, Greene, Cassius. Att: 414.
