Goldberg: AFC Wimbledon players are to blame for controversy

Mark Goldberg believes his side deserved at least a draw after a spirited second half display Mark Goldberg believes his side deserved at least a draw after a spirited second half display

MARK Goldberg has revealed the behaviour of AFC Wimbledon players after Ryan Hall’s controversial injury time equaliser had cost the Dons victory on Easter Monday.

The Bromley manager was not in the dugout because of a serious knee injury which caused him to miss even seeing the goal.

Goldberg conceded he would have been prepared to have told his players to stand aside and allow the Dons to score again.

However, several Wimbledon players aggressively confronted the Bromley bench after the goal had gone in and this reaction ultimately led to the decision not to gift the visitors three points.

Goldberg said: “Del Parnham, who usually works in the football in the community project, was asked to step up and be my assistant for the day.

“He was left in a difficult situation as he had a water bottle thrown at his neck and was verbally abused by Tom Davis, as well as a number of other people.

“It was an incident where, in the heat of the moment after being abused, he wasn’t prepared to allow them to score.

“The incident itself could have been serious. I think it hit his chest but had it been an inch higher, it could have been very dangerous.

"At the time it was an awkward situation, but if you’re abused and have a water bottle thrown at your neck, all sportsmanship goes out of the window.”

Wimbledon’s commercial director Ivor Heller was quoted elsewhere claiming Goldberg had told him he would have allowed Wimbledon to score.

And although the Bromley boss confirmed this was true, he also made clear he hadn’t seen the goal at the time.

Goldberg explained: “I didn't know the full extent of the incident as I was watching the game from upstairs.

“I was making my way downstairs and through the tunnel when the incident occurred and I only became aware of what happened after the match had finished.

“I had no idea of how the goal had been scored. I thought maybe the ball hadn’t crossed the line and i didn’t hear about what actually happened until after the game.”

He added: “I would have done the right thing if I had of known about it.

“But at the same time, I think it's fair to say we deserved at least a draw out of the game.

“During the course of the game, and certainty in the second half, we deserved at least a point. If anything, we should have got all three points.”

And Goldberg also clarified that it was Parnham, and not coach Murray Jones, who had been in charge of the Lillywhites on the day.

The manager said: “I would like to put the record straight and confir Murray Jones was away with the academy winning the Amsterdam Trophy.

“He has come back and had his reputation tarnished a little with this and I think it's important to put that message back out there.”

Goldberg also leapt to the defence of Hall, who was described by Dons boss Terry Brown as “a typical flash boy, a typical idiot”.

The Lillies chief has yet to speak to his player about the controversial incident but added: “I'm still not sure if Ryan Hall intended to score or not.

“However, he certainly isn’t flash and quite clearly the fact he scored two goals from midfield, in whatever circumstances, shows he is no idiot.”

Typical moron-ball thinking from a real clown. No-one believes your lies, Goldberg. Just accept facts, Bromley are a nasty, spiteful club who are going nowhere fast.

Goldberg is going to be met with a lot of boos if AFC Wimbledon don't make the move up and are stuck with having to put on with these rubes next season.

hi i am a bromley fan and i was at the game i thought that ryan hall had no intentions of scoring especially from that position either way the rules of the game state that the ball is in play so anything can happen the keeper should of had his eyes on the ball. i don't believe Ryan Hall is flash or an idiot i just believe he is a talented player and maybe stands out a little from the rest therefore may be seen as flash. He played extremely well that game and i think in my opinion they deserved to win...should i just say what a hell of a GOAL!!!!!!!!!!!!

All these comments from the man who thought he had bought Smellhurst Park along with the Crystal Paralysis brand. He was wrong then and he is wrong now.The only good thing that Ron Noades ever did was to expose this no longer wealthy looser. I am sure this will have a longer lasting effect on Bromley than on AFC Wimbledon and they are the ones who have to live with the fall out and the way that every other club will now react to them. Enjoy it you cheats

A very poor attempt from Goldberg to recitfy embarrasing unsporting behaviour from the Bromley team. I find it particularly frustrating that he proposes because of a spirited performance his team deserved some of the points. This is irrelevant to the cause. How many times have your team played well and come away with nothing? It is how football works, and it is rediculous to suggest a show of unsporting behaviour can compensate for such actions. As a Bromley resident, I am highly embarrased that my local team has acted in such a pathetic manner. From what I have heard, a majority of locals also cannot believe the actions of Bromley FC, and I am glad they will take the burden for cheating disgraceful behaviour. As an AFC Wimbledon supporter, I am offended by the actions of Bromley FC, and I hope my local team suffer the consequences. Perhaps next time Mark Goldberg will have induced a sense of morality into the team instead of a pathetic justification of their poor unsporting behaviour.

bromley are a discrace to football and should be barred from playing again.
We have had this troble before but this might just cost us the leauge and it is not fair on the players fan and officals of AFC Wimbledon.
Also the refferee was not playin the game fairly and it shows that some ref at this level can not take on high pirorty games as this.

So if Bromley had let AFC Wimbledon walk the ball in the net to make it 3-2, would have been fair to Hampton & Richmond who can still win the league.I dont think so. I also hope Bromley FC take legal action against some of AFC fans for criminal damage they caused at ground on Monday. Good luck to Hampton & Richomnd on Saturday, as they will have to put up with all which goes on with the AFC Wimbledon circus.

A;though I am a Bromley resident I steer well clear of Bromley Football Club, as it is known as a nasty little club with spiteful and small minded supporters.

Evidence of the sort of club that Bromley is can be found in the original match report, where there's a reference to an 'Ali Chaaban' playing for Bromley. Is this the same Ali Chaaban referred to in the News shopper article at

http://www.newsshopp

er.co.uk/news/181443

4.football_player_ad

who was convicted of possession with intent to supply drugs?

The same Ali Chaaban about who Mark Goldberg said "He is not a player of ours anymore. We are aware he had been arrested and we agreed by mutual consent to part company two weeks ago. The reason he has not been involved in the team is because of this".

And yet here he is, a Bromley player! No wonder Bromley FC has such a poor reputation. Any comment on this embarrassment, Mr Goldberg?

So reacting to unsporting behaviour now causes it? That's the sort of logic you would expect from a man who paid £25m for Crystal Palace without their stadium and from whose ownership they may never recover.

Do Bromley FC have any shame or self-respect?

adamg, orpington - offended by Bromley's behaviour? personally I'm offended that as a local resident you choose to support AFC Wimbledon - glory hunting? band wagon? maybe you just enjoy traveling half way across london for your home games?

Excilabur - small minded and nasty? thats very kind thank you - I am a Bromley supporter who attends most home and away games and would not consider myself either; also with reference to Ali Chaaban - yes he is again a Bromley player, since Jan 09, having paid for his crime, prior to this he did leave the club. Maybe you should ensure you know the facts before making comments. Also those not at the game surely find it difficult to know the rights and wrongs. If the goalie had caught the ball - as I'm sure was intended there would not have been a problem.

Well said Ms Ballerina.I don't know if you write under your own name (I do), but either way isn't it a shame that some regular names (Excalibur) feel the need to hide thier identity? I too was watching the game and feel very strongly that, whilst spoiling a great game, the unsavoury incident was brought about by AFC themselves. I seem to remember they had the chance of putting the ball out of play earlier but chose not too and what's more it certainly seemed to me, the so called "injured player" was simply "trying it on". (ie using very un-sportsman like tactics to waste time). And the goal, by the magnificent Ryan Hall was clearly not deliberate, and the antics of the AFC squad was simply appalling! Well done Mr Parnham.

Thanks for confirming the facts that I correctly stated about Ali Chaaban, ABallerina.

Seems like crime does pay - a new contract with Bromley FC, lovely jubbly!

Sums up all you need to know about the lack of morals within Bromley FC.

Ballerina....I support Wimbledon as my father always has done, and thus I began watching them as a youngster during the premiership days. It is nice to be associated with glory hunting and Wimbledon as it shows how much sucess the club has achieved.

Rodders- criminal damage? a few advertising boards fell off onto the pitch after our fans ran to the front during the incident in dismay of the Bromley decision. I do not recall any police getting involved, as nothing serious occured, so please stop trying to shift the blame.

If your team was in the same situation, I can imagine your players would get equally agitated and determined to get 3 points. Hence, when it is snatched from under your nose 30 seconds before the end in unsporting circumstances players were rightly frustrated. May I make it clear that none of our players were booked, hence our actions could not have been that bad.

The longer this argument goes on, the more the Bromley fans try to justify it. It was simply, unsporting behaviour and the club have disgraced themseleves in the eyes of AFC Wimbledon fans and a significant number of other sports fans.

Very interesting comments from adam g and my eyes must be decieving me I think as I was at the game and saw the advertisement boards that fell over when you ran to the front and they ended up hitting the top of the net! They must have lept 8 feet in the air by themselves then did they! Also and just a side note on the spirit of the game etc.. - did anyone else notice that the injured player who the ball was kicked out for was running quite freely into our dug out and pushing people around.... don't say Wimbledon were time wasting were they, never?? Must admit me and my mates went to the game and thought it was the funniest last 3 minutes of a game ever and football is supposed to be fun you know - come on the Bromley!

i would just like to say that however much bromley try to justify their actions, they cant. If maybe bromley had more loyal supporters, hence that come week in week out(not just when the dons come to town), and make themselves heard not just when they score; maybe i would have the time to listen to them. But let me put it this way to bromley fans, players and coaching team, if you were in wimbledons current situation going into that game, would your manager calmly walk over to the dugout and ask politely for the ball to be put into your own net? would your fans understand the situation and make a quiet exit? would your team be annoyed and frustrated after the game?

what a joke, they where not very nice so we decided to not be nice hahahahahaha

Bromley should have let Wimbledon walk the ball in and then made an official complaint about AFC players behaviours.
