MANAGER Bill Long hopes Charlton’s women’s team’s London Cup semi-final win over Tottenham can inspire his side to surge up the league ahead of a home date with bottom side Barnet.

A Gemma Bryan hat-trick fired the Addicks to a 4-0 win over Spurs to set up a final clash with Arsenal reserves at Redbridge FC on March 28.

Between now and then, though, Charlton will switch their focus back to the FA Women’s Premier League, where they have games in hand on every team in the division.

Last weekend’s win came after they were eliminated from the FA Cup and League Cup in the two previous weeks, to Oxford and Leeds respectively, and Long hopes the girls are now back on track.

He said: “We were poor against Oxford but at times against Leeds we were a very, very good side and a couple of naive mistakes have cost us.

“But we have bounced through them, we’ve got a decent win against Tottenham and hopefully that moves us into the Barnet game.

“If we can get a good win we are on the right path again.

“It won’t be an easy game, as both sides are battling so it is an important game to us.

“We need to get them three points on the board to help us play catch-up. If we can get two or three good results we are looking at the top of the table rather than the bottom.”

The Barnet game is at Bayliss Avenue, Thamesmead at 2pm on Sunday.

Entry is free for Charlton season ticket holders, while other adults pay £4 and concessions £2.
