MILLWALL suffered a humiliating defeat at Hull City on Saturday.

Robert Koren opened the scoring for the Tigers with a superb strike from 20 yards.

Millwall’s 3-5-2 formation failed to deal with the threat Hull posed and the Lions looked exposed.

Former Millwall loanee Jay Simpson scored the second goal from Stephen Quinn’s cross and Quinn turned provider to set up Abdoulaye Faye minutes later, who scored with a thumping header to make it 3-0.

Jackett reverted to a 4-4-2 formation in a belated attempt to contain the Tigers.

However, the nightmare continued for the Lions as Sone Aluko went clean through on goal and fired under Maik Taylor before the break and even though Darius Henderson pulled one back in the second half, it was scant consolation for Jackett.

The boss said: “Defensively we were poor and didn’t negate their main threats.

“Hull played very well and have a lot of confidence at present “I felt Hull were very good, they had a lot of tempo to their game and it was hard to stop us moving the ball and working shooting opportunities.

“They have the likes of Koren, who scored the first goal.

“We wanted to get tighter to him but if you do give him shooting opportunities, even from a distance, he’s proved over a number of seasons he can score.”

Jackett added: “We tried to match up and get tighter to the midfield players.

“The likes of Quinn and Koren are playing well for them at the moment.

“It was a constant outlet for them and a threat down our left hand side and their right.

“We were breaking and giving them problems, we were getting the ball into our forwards feet and working off that.

“It’s just unfortunately our final ball wasn’t good enough and when they were breaking, they were hitting the target with their shots.

“In the first 15 to 20 minutes we had more corners then them.

“I don’t know what the corner count was but we know we had quite a bit of it.

“Unfortunately, they were heading them out and looked like scoring on the break from almost every corner.

“We did try to attack them today and sometimes that can counter for you.”

The Lions’ next test is against and expensively assembled Cardiff side on Tuesday night at The Den.

Jackett added: “There’s a big opportunity for us on Tuesday to bounce back.

“That’s a good thing we don’t have to wait too long for our next game.

“We are looking forward to it. We do need to find some defensive stability to our side, that’s not necessary just the back players but we have to work towards clean sheets.

“The good things are that in every game we have created chances and had shots.

“That’s the positive but it does have to be off a defensive stability and defensive base.”
