Jackett: Decisions cost us at Hammers

Millwall boss Kenny Jackett was left frustrated with controversial decisions after his side were beaten at 10-man rivals West Ham.

Keeper David Forde was seemingly fouled by Julien Faubert just before Winston Reid volleyed home the winning second half goal three minutes after Liam Trotter had cancelled out Carlton Cole’s first half opener.

West Ham spent the majority of the game a man down after Kevin Nolan had been handed a straight red card for a ninth minute two-footed lunge at Jack Smith.

But Millwall were unable to capitalise, although it was referee Mike Jones’ failure to spot the foul on Forde which was the real talking point for Jackett afterwards.

He said: “I thought the second goal was a foul.

“I’ve seen it on the monitor and Faubert has wiped David Forde’s legs away from under him.

“You have to give a foul in those circumstances, so it was a harsh decision.

“We did have the momentum and then they’ve gone straight down the other end and got the winner, so it was a frustrating one.

“But like I said, I’ve got some sympathy with my goalkeeper because it was a foul.”

Opposite number Sam Allardyce raised eyebrows when he maintained his captain Nolan should not have been dismissed for his early lunge on Smith.

Jackett, however, feels the referee got the decision spot on, particularly with the recent clamp-down on players going in dangerously with feet raised.

“Under the current climate if you tackle with two feet it does seem to be a red card so that would be compliant with the rules,” he stated.

Despite the defeat against 10-men, Jackett again bemoaned the bad luck which has haunted his side this season.

He said: “The performance wasn’t bad, we’ve had many like that and lost by the odd goal so that is frustrating at the moment.

“It has been a poor week for us with two losses but I’m the one who has to analyse it and make sure everyone is fit and available and pushing forward because we need 21 points from the last 17 games to get the 50 points.

“That’s our aim at the moment now.

“We have to turn some good performances, and some good passing performances, into results.”

Jackett added: “We are giving soft goals away and we are not ruthless enough in the other box.

“Get those things right, and then look forward and we will achieve our aim this year.

“I am confident in the players.

“There are certain things we need to do and need to do better but people like Andy Keogh will only help our options.”
