KENNY Jackett feels the return of Shaun Batt and Darius Henderson to the Lions’ front line is almost the equivalent of signing two new strikers.

Henderson netted a hat-trick on his return in Tuesday’s 5-0 FA Cup demolition of Dagenham, a more than welcome contribution considering Millwall’s recent goals drought.

Batt sustained a serious injury in pre-season last year and his long awaited return to first team action came with a pair of substitute appearances in both ties against the Daggers.

Jackett admits there is still some way to go yet before Batt will be pushing for a place in his starting line-up, but pointed out he is still a useful weapon to have.

The Lions boss said: “We are always looking for strikers and it is an area we are looking to strengthen, but we’ve recently got Darius Henderson and Shaun Batt back and they’re like two additions for us after recent games.

“Internally we have to keep working hard to maintain their fitness because they can play a big part in the remainder of our season.

“There is a further reserve game next Tuesday that Shaun Batt will play in and the more training and substitute appearances he gets the better.

“At the minute the most he can do is be a sub.

“I don’t necessarily think he is a starter yet but he can definitely have an impact coming off the bench.”

Jackett rejected reports Millwall were considering a move for Tamas Priskin after his release by Ipswich, but the boss did hint at a possible stay for Josh McQuoid after he was linked with a potential loan return to Bournemouth before the collapse of the Danny Haynes deal last week.

“Josh McQuoid has got a role to play here and if he gets the chances he is capable of scoring,” the Den chief said.

“In the two sub appearances he has made of late Josh has come on and looked bright.

“He has to now follow up on that if he can.”

Jackett also hinted at some last minute wheeling and dealing to come before the transfer window closes at the end of this month.

“I’m hoping yes but I don’t think there will be anything before Saturday,” he revealed.

“That will lead us into the last week when most of the deals get done anyway.

“We will be hopeful, but we will see.”

The manager agreed the goals haul on Tuesday night had boosted confidence levels within the squad, although Jackett knows the challenge now is to reproduce it against Championship rivals.

He explained: “It has raiseed confidence but what we need to do now is try and score at our level.

“If we can do that starting at Barnsley on Saturday it will certainly help us.

“We went there at the end of last season and were unlucky to lose because we played quite well on the day.

“Barnsley are having a good season with the likes of Ricardo Vaz Te, Andy Gray and David Perkins doing very well.

“I’m only really concentrating on ourselves and I want us to take Tuesday’s form into our league campaign.

“It is going to be vital we do that.”

Jackett added: “We’ve played quite well, played good football and created chances, it is just that the goals haven’t come.

“We have to make sure we do something about that.

“Harry Kane is a young player who has come in from Spurs and it will be interesting to see how he develops now because he has found feet and looks a very good footballer.

“It was nice to have the game on Tuesday to try and get the Birmingham result out of our system because anyone who was there on Saturday will know it was a bizarre type of game.

“We obviously don’t want to lose games and that is the bottom line, but there was a lot last Saturday against Birmingham to take positives from.

“If we take that and keep improving - because we do need to keep improving – and keep improving the side, then we can start to win at this level consistently.”
