LIONS manager Kenny Jackett revealed there was a deal in place to bring in Danny Haynes from Barnsley.
However, the pacy striker instead decided to complete a move to rivals Charlton Athletic on Friday.
The Peckham-born player had been linked with both the Lions and the Addicks and it was Chris Powell's League One leaders who clinched the signing on a permanent deal.
“I made an approach, the deal on the table was rejected and obviously now I do believe he's moved on to Charlton,” said the boss.
“It went a little bit quiet in the middle of last week and then you know the deal hasn't either been accepted by the club or the player.
“He was somebody we had considered, there's no doubt about that.”
But despite the disappointment of missing out on the 24-year-old, Jackett insists he will move on to attract other players to The Den during the January transfer window.
He said: “People and players make decisions, ultimately it's up to them and from our point of view, if we can't capture one player, we don't dwell on that and move on quickly to the next one..
“We can see now what the market brings, it might even go to the last week of the transfer window.
“There hasn't been too much movement yet.
“We probably need a few of the big clubs to move to be able to pick off them maybe.”
