KENNY Jackett has downplayed suggestions Millwall are on the brink of signing Huddersfield striker Theo Robinson.
Robinson’s name has been touted around as a likely candidate this week after the player’s agent Phil Korklin spoke publicly about how a move to The Den would appeal to his client.
However, Jackett seemed reticent when asked this morning if Robinson was a target and also criticised Korklin for airing his opinions in the media.
He said: “I don’t really know where these stories are coming from if I’m being honest with you. We aren’t close to signing Theo Robinson or anyone else.
“We have been looking for players for a month or two and obviously now the window is open.
“Millwall are in a similar position to a lot of clubs in that we are trying to do some business but if you are asking me is anybody coming in now or imminently, that isn’t the case.”
Jackett added: “We haven’t been in a situation where we’ve been close to that signing (Robinson) and what agents do or don’t say is unfortunately beyond my control.
“I can’t really stop them and they’ve got their own agenda unfortunately.
“We’ve been looking at forwards but it would be rude for me to speak about players at other clubs.
“Players are contracted to other clubs and I wouldn’t like people to be talking about players at my club who I’m working with this morning.
“It has been very quiet so far and nothing has happened, but we are hopeful something will happen next week.
“Maybe it needs something to break at another club for it to have a knock on effect because at the moment we aren’t close to signing anybody.”
Millwall travel to Oldham on Saturday where they will be looking to pick up only their second away victory of the season.
It is the first of three games in a week for the Lions and Jackett is targeting a handy points return to boost his side’s play-off hopes.
He said: “We’ve got three very big games in the space of the week against Oldham, Southend and Brighton and it is good they are coming so quickly.
“We are looking for a good points total from those three games.
“Oldham are fighting for their lives down at the bottom of the table and Boundary Park is never an easy place to go. We lost there last year after taking the lead, so we are hoping to go one better by getting a lead and perhaps holding on to it.”
