TAMIKA Mkandawire could be a Southend player soon after a minor injury setback held up a loan move to the League Two side.

Millwall have been desperate to get the midfielder out on loan to get some first team action as the 29-year-old bids to get back to full fitness after his career was put on hold a serious injury 12 months ago.

And it looks like a spell with the Shrimpers is on the cards once Mkandawire has shrugged off the thigh problem which has put the planned move on ice up until now.

Jackett said: “Southend are very interested in taking him on loan.

“He has a very slight knock and we are just waiting for him to get fit.

“One or two clubs have expressed an interest and are looking to take him on loan.

“From my point of view I think it would be the ideal situation if he could get out on loan and play some games, it would be great.

“Tam has a very slight thigh strain and we are waiting for him to get over that, which will be any day now. “
