Liverpool to pay Addicks extra if Shelvey makes England debut
5:23pm Tuesday 9th October 2012 in Charlton Athletic By Paul Green
Jonjo Shelvey
CHARLTON could be set for a welcome cash boost if Jonjo Shelvey makes his full England debut later this week.
The former Addicks youngster joined Liverpool in 2010 for an initial up front fee of £1.7m, although there were several add ons to that deal, including an additional payment should the midfielder go on to represent his country at full international level.
Shelvey burst on to the scene with Charlton when he was selected for the first team at the age of just 16 years and 19 days in 2008.
He was still only 18 when he was sold to Liverpool by Phil Parkinson but having already represented England at U16, U17 and U19 level by the time of his departure, it is no surprise the terms of his transfer factored in any possible future U21 and full England honours.
Now the Championship side are on the brink of getting their hands on more of Liverpool’s money after Roy Hodgson called up Shelvey for the World Cup qualifiers against San Marino and Poland, giving Charlton supporters an extra added interest for this particular international break.
