SCOTT Wagstaff insists he has no plans to leave Charlton and will fight to keep his place in the starting XI from new signing Danny Green.

The 21-year old made it two goals in the Addicks' opening two games of the new League One campaign, breaking the deadlock during their 2-1 win at Notts County.

And Wagstaff was quick to rubbish tabloid rumours over the summer that he was set to find a new club after manager Chris Powell brought in competition on the right flank in the form of Green from Dagenham.

He said after the Magpies victory: " I saw the reports, but there's nothing to them.

"I'm happy at Charlton and I've been here since I was 8 years old, I've grown up here.

"The gaffer's been excellent to me and the new players have been really good since they've come in, so I don't think I'd want to leave.

"I'm happy here and I want to stay."

On his new team-mate Green, the winger added: "Green is a great player, and he's done so well over pre-season and I know if I don't perform then he's going to come into the team.

"I probably have to score 46 goals this season to keep my spot but it's the gaffer's decision whether to play me or not.

"I get on really well with Greeny, and it's going to be a good challenge for me to play every week."

Waggy continued: "I want to be playing every game. Obviously it's down to the gaffer, it's his decision, but I'm just happy to be playing and scoring goals."

His goal at Meadow Lane, while not as spectacular as his stunner at The Valley seven days ago, was another graceful finish from the Academy graduate from a tight angle.

Wagstaff was, as expected, thrilled with his latest 'golazo' – but he opted against using his trademark 'brick' celebration from the FIFA video games this week.

On the goal, he explained: "As soon as it hit the back of the net, I was buzzing. It was a good goal.

"It was a great ball from Paul Hayes and obviously I finished it off.

"I saw the keeper come rushing out for one of our chances before my goal so I figured he'd come out again, knocked it past him and slotted it in."

But despite celebrating his Bournemouth goal by collapsing to the floor, Wagstaff admitted the ensuing banter from his team-mates made him think twice on Saturday.

"I was going to do 'The Brick' again today," he said, "but the boys gave me so much stick for it last week, so I gave it a miss today.

"It could come back out if my little brother tells me to do it again, but he wasn't here today so I didn't do it. I think it'll be a home games-only thing."
