CHRIS Powell will give French trialist Alexis Honore more time to stake a claim and win a contract at The Valley.

Despite already doing big business in the transfer market so far, Powell admitted there are still a few possibilities – both incoming and outgoing - before deadline day arrives.

And one potential likely candidate on trial at Sparrows lane at the minute is Toulouse academy graduate Honore, who came on as a sub in Saturday’s 0-0 draw at Woking.

Powell said: “Jeff Vetere, our technical director, went to a game in France where there was a number of pros and young pros in a big trial game.

“Alexis caught the eye scoring a few goals and he has played in pre-season for our youth side but he’s a year too old for our academy season.

“He has trained with us this week and looked pretty sharp, he has got an eye for goal.

“Obviously the robustness of football does take some players by surprise but I think if he can handle that, he may have a chance.

“He will be with us for another week.

“We’ve got Den Bosch and then we’ve got Bromley, so he will be involved in one of the games and we will see where we go from there.”

On former team-mate Euell, who also came on at Woking, the Charlton boss added: “Jason has been training with us and because we’ve had one or two knocks I asked Jason if he wanted to be involved just to help him with his fitness.

“It’s something we may look at.

“Obviously he's been here before and he showed today even in his 20 minutes on the pitch that he still has a lot to offer."

“Making decisions on trialists is never easy or straight-forward, I wish it was.

“Sometimes they appear to be free transfers but aren’t free when there's other people and other agents involved.

“But there’s no timeframe to make a decision and we will look and think if we can benefit from this player being here.

“There still may be one or two coming in, there may also be one or two going out, but I don’t know yet.

“I’d like to get my squad settled as soon as I can because it is very important once the kick-off happens in two weeks.”
