DEON Burton is confident of playing a part in the remainder of Charlton’s run-in after shaking off a knee injury.

The former Jamaican international, 33, had not featured for the Addicks since the 2-2 draw against Gillingham on March 20.

But after a 50 minute cameo from the bench on Saturday against Norwich, the club’s top scorer feels fit enough to play an integral role in the crucial final few games and perhaps also the play-offs.

On his injury, Burton explained: “I’ve been trying to keep my fitness up around my knee and it was okay today.

“I feel ready to kick on again. I’ve been out for a month and I only trained yesterday so to get 45-50 minutes under my belt today was good and hopefully I’ll be in contention for next week.

“I’ve had a bit of ice on the knee, it’s a bit sore obviously after my first game back, but there’s been no recurrences yet, touch wood.

“I’ve also got an operation coming up for my hernia but we can’t book it in just yet because we don’t know when our season will end yet.

“But the hernia doesn’t restrict me, really. I rattle about with all the tablets I take but it eases the pain for 90 minutes and I’ll make it through twenty more games if I have to, let alone six.

“I’ll be back in full training now, full steam ahead and back to normal.”
