CHRIS Powell says there is no point bemoaning Bradley Pritchard’s late dismissal in today’s 2-1 defeat at Bournemouth.

Pritchard was handed a straight red card for a late challenge on Ryan Fraser and the Charlton manager accepts a spell on the sidelines is now inevitable for the player.

Powell said: “I haven’t seen it again.

“Andy D’Urso has made his decision and Bradley is off.

“He has to serve to a three match-ban, it is as simple as that.

“I’m not going to stand here and complain about it. He (D’Urso) made a decision and that is it.”

Lewis Grabban was Bornemouth’s key man, opening the scoring in the first half and unleashing an unstoppable 66th minute winner after Yann Kermorgant’s stunning volley had got the visitors back on terms early in the second half.

“You never want to get off to a losing start but it is one of those things that has happened,” admitted Powell.

“They got an outstanding winner to be honest with you.

“I’m disappointed, we maybe should have closed him down but our response was good.

“We had one cleared off the line which would have given us that equaliser but it wasn’t to be.

“It was a superb equalising goal by Yann to get ourselves back in the game but we were beaten by a magic strike on the day.

“I’m disappointed it was 2-1 but we move on.”

Next up for the Addicks is Tuesday’s Valley League Cup date with Oxford, but Powell is not willing to risk skipper Johnnie Jackson for the midweek tie after the skipper missed today’s game with a calf injury.

“I doubt it very much,” the manager said.

“He took a knock in training.

“We were hoping to get him out on the pitch but we felt it was best not to expose him today.

“I think it will be wise to give him a few more days so I won’t risk him against Oxford, that’s for sure.”

New strike duo Marvin Sordell and Simon Church both featured, the former starting the game up front with Kermorgant before the latter came off the bench to replace him 25 minutes from the end.

On Sordell’s display, Powell said: “He is going to take time to get used to everyone.

“I threw him in to play and it looks like he can only get better.

“I think once he gets used to the players and how we play and starts linking up with Yann I think we will see a player who will score goals for us.”

On Church, the SE7 chief added: “He came on to give us that fresh impetus but as soon as he came on they scored.

“It was a real shame but he will improve.

“He needs time and he needs minutes because he hasn’t had much of a pre-season.

“It did look a bit of a gamble to start him today because he has only had 60 minutes, unlike Marvin and all the rest of the players who have had full pre-seasons.

“He will only get better with the training and with the games and I’m sure we will see a player who will improve.”
