CHRIS Powell admits he would like to have another look at trialist striker Adamo Coulibaly but accepts it probably won’t happen.

Coulibaly featured in the pre-season wins at Wimbledon and Portsmouth last week, with Powell hinting after the Pompey success on Saturday he would like to hold talks with the player’s representatives.

However, the striker returned to France the following day and this, combined with major unexplained confusion about who exactly his representatives actually are, means any potential deal is now off the agenda.

Powell said: “He’s playing in France, we’re the last to know.

“I don’t envisage him coming back.

“He has a lot of agents and I can’t see anything happening.

“I’d like him back but I can’t see it.”

Charlton remain desperately short of firepower ahead of the new campaign, with Yann Kermorgant the only experienced striker on the books in SE7.

And Powell revealed he is on the lookout for up to a trio of new additions to his forward line before the season gets underway at Bournemouth next Saturday.

The manager said: “I’ve just got to keep chipping away, receiving phone calls from people and getting people on trial.

“Hopefully we can get one or two permanent ones.

“It’s no secret I am after at least one or two and maybe even three strikers, because we need to boost that area with senior players who know the Championship.

“I’m hopeful we can get them in before the kick-off, that’s for certain.”

A well known target is Tottenham striker Jon Obika, but Powell was cautious in his response after last night’s 2-0 win at Dagenham when asked what the latest news on that deal was.

“I’ve got to be careful because he’s not our player, but he made an impression on everyone,” the Valley chief said.

“It’s no secret we did like what he did last season.

“We have called but it takes time.

“Who knows, we may get him in a red shirt again in the future.”

Powell also downplayed suggestions the Addicks were close to agreeing a loan deal with Hull winger Cameron Stewart.

“We’ve been made aware of him but we’re not close to a deal, with him or anyone else at the moment.

“He’s got quality, but we’re not over the line with anyone.”
