GOALS from Bradley Pritchard, Callum Harriott and Yann Kermorgant helped maintain the Addicks’ unbeaten pre-season record in yesterday’s win at Portsmouth.

After being given his debut at AFC Wimbledon on Wednesday, Adamo Coulibaly continued upfront for the visitors and it was the imposing striker who set up the first real chance.

Coulibaly dispossessed a Pompey defender and squared a pass to Harriott in the centre, who took a touch before placing a shot agonisingly wide of the right-hand post.

The hosts took a while to get into the contest and their best chance of the half came when Andy Barcham’s strong run down the right forced a corner.

From the resulting set piece, Joe Devera rose highest at the back post, but couldn’t make a clean connection with the ball.

The visitors responded with pressure of their own as they forced successive corners, both of which were scrambled to safety.

But the home defence were powerless to contain an incisive Charlton breakaway which soon had Powell’s men in front.

Mark Gower strode forward through the centre of the field to find the on rushing Cedric Evina down the left.

Evina drove at right-back Danny East before hanging the ball up invitingly at the far post for Pritchard to scramble it home.

Coulibaly had the ball in the net shortly before the interval but was adjudged to have been offside in the build-up involving Harriott as Charlton finished the half in control.

The second half began slower than the first.

Harriott had an effort blocked as cries of handball were heard from the away end but nothing was given.

Barcham continued to threaten down the right, but his shot was well dealt with by the Addicks’ defence.

Charlton doubled their lead with 20 minutes remaining.

Captain Johnnie Jackson swung in a free-kick on the right and when the home defence failed to clear the danger, Harriott rushed onto the loose ball to lash it through a crowd of players and into the net.

Kermorgant, Jordan Cousins and Danny Green entered the fray with quarter of an hour remaining and it was Kermorgant who went on to grab the killer third goal.

The Frenchman sent Chris Solly away down the right and the full-back was bundled over in the area, leaving referee Mr Stroud no option but to give a penalty.

Kermorgant stepped up and made no mistake from the spot and Charlton were able to celebrate a convincing win.

Next up for the Addicks is a trip to Dagenham & Redbridge on Tuesday.
