CHARLTON are set to pick up a welcome cash boost following Jonjo Shelvey’s switch from Liverpool to Swansea yesterday.

Shelvey began his career at The Valley and broke into the first team in 2008 at the age of just 16.

He went on to make 49 appearances for the Addicks before being sold to Liverpool for £1.7 million in May 2010 by Phil Parkinson.

Charlton have already collected additional money from the Merseyside outfit based on Shelvey’s success in breaking into the full England set up since his departure from SE7.

And this week’s switch from Anfield to south Wales means another Valley payday is on the cards as the Addicks ensured a sell-on clause applied to any profit made by Liverpool on Shelvey under the terms of the transfer three years ago.

Reports suggest Swansea could end up forking out up to £6m for the 21-year-old, meaning a slice of the £4.3m profit Liverpool made is on the way to SE7.

It remains unclear exactly how much of that cash the Addicks will collect, although it is expected to be a very welcome six-figure fee.
