EBBSFLEET United's new boss Steve Brown says he will look seriously into the possibility of signing youngsters on loan from Charlton this season.

Former Addicks defender Brown was unveiled as Liam Daish’s successor at Stonebridge Road this morning and will be assisted in the role by one-time Charlton joint-manager Steve Gritt.

And with Valley connections so strong at the Conference South side, Brown admitted there was an obvious temptation to get some of Charlton’s talented youngsters on board on temporary deals.

“There’s potential for it,” he said.

“I’ve got a connection with that football club, it’s just a case of whether they will allow the certain players I may want to come down to this level.”

The new Fleet chief also confirmed he had agreed terms with two players from last year’s squad.

He added: “As it stands I’ve spoken to four.

“One is away at the moment and two have re-signed already, Joe Howe and Paul Lorraine.

“We are in talks with Preston Edwards.”

This is Brown’s first managerial position and the new boss admits he is excited by the challenge ahead of leading Ebbsfleet onwards and upwards following last season’s relegation.

“It feels great,” he said.

“I’ve been working for 10 years to get the opportunity at various different roles , I spent time at West Ham, Brighton and then in the non-league with Dover under Nicky Forster.

“I can’t wait to get started.

“The aim is to get back up, it is a difficult league to get out of.

“I’ve just spent 18 months at Dover swapping their squad around and putting together a squad that challenged and we managed to make the play-offs.

“The aim is absolutely to get back up but first and foremost we’ve got to put a squad together.

“We’ve been left with no players, so the challenge is to put a squad together.

“Of course the aim is promotion to the Conference Premier, the long-term goal is to get promotion to the Football League eventually.

“The plan is to go full-time eventually but for this year it will be part-time.”

And Brown will have money to spend after the club was successfully taken over by KEH Sports Limited, the Kuwaiti consortium fronted by former Charlton chief executive Peter Varney.

“I’ve got a competitive budget,” the Stonebridge Road manager said.

“It’s not as good as other clubs in this league but it is competitive and I think I can put a squad together which certainly is up there.”
