Owls loss hard to take for Pritchard
10:33am Monday 28th January 2013 in Charlton Athletic By George Jones
SATURDAY’S 2-1 home defeat to Sheffield Wednesday left Charlton midfielder Bradley Pritchard feeling shocked at the final whistle.
Pritchard teed up Johnnie Jackson to open the scoring just after the break to put the hosts on course for a fourth consecutive league win.
But late goals from Reda Johnson and former Addicks loanee Leroy Lita stole the points for the struggling Owls to leave Pritchard and the majority of the 20,292 fans at The Valley stunned.
“At 1-0 we were doing well, we were keeping our shape and honestly I couldn’t see them scoring,” said Pritchard.
“Maybe we just got tired and they capitalised.
“They play a certain way and they kept knocking at the door and, like I said, maybe we got tired, had a loss of concentration here or there and they scored two goals.
“But honestly I couldn’t see them scoring, so obviously it’s really disappointing.”
On his assist, Pritchard added: “I think the way my shooting has been recently, I had to play the percentage game.
“Johnnie Jackson is on a good run of form and always puts them away, so when he was in a better position to score I was just happy to be involved.
“There are positives. We do create chances.
“Maybe in the last few weeks we have been fortunate enough for them to go in.
“Look at Dale Stephens’ goal last week.
“It has been good because we have been able to create these things, but on Saturday maybe it just wasn’t our day.
“We had a chance to finish them off with Scott Wagstaff’s shot that hit the post and then we had three guys following in and the ball just fell in between all of us.
“There are positives for sure, but that is only slight consolation.”
