Fully fit Charlton squad likely to lead to Valley loan exits
CHARLTON manager Chris Powell is prepared to allow some of his fringe players to go out on loan.
The Addicks now have a largely fully fit squad, with most long and short term injured players seemingly recovered.
Powell is delighted he has a large selection of talent to choose from but accepts keeping everyone happy may not be easy.
“Possibly we could let a few go, possibly on loan,” he said.
“I want us to be strong.
“We’ve had to change players through injury and suspension along with loss of form this season.
“But I looked at my team last week against Blackburn, looked at my bench and thought ‘we are quite strong’.
“Even if I have to make changes I am still confident we are strong enough to compete.”
Like most managers, Powell is not a fan of the January transfer window, although losing key players doesn’t seem to be a realistic worry this month.
But with at least two players for every position now at The Valley, there is a very good chance not everyone will be happy with the amount of game time they are getting.
Powell said: “Players coming back from injury means we have a nice big squad now.
“I am happy to give the youngsters a go, but I don’t want to expose them to games when they are not ready.
“If I have to move one or two players on, or if they express a desire to go out on loan, then I will look into it.
“It is a case of looking at your whole squad and just tinkering with it, really.
“Can I add a player here to improve us? Can we let this player go?
“You have to be calm and composed, otherwise you make mistakes.
“It is certainly not a time to panic.”
