KENNY Jackett says Millwall are keeping their options open on Josh McQuoid’s future.

The 23-year-old played as a striker whenever called upon by the Lions but has featured predominantly as a wide player since making a 93-loan move to Burnley on January 20.

Turf Moor manager Eddie Howe this week revealed the Clarets have yet to decide whether to make a bid to secure McQuid on a permanent basis once the loan deal expires.

Jackett was equally non-committal about his long-term intentions on the player when asked by News Shopper this morning, although he did admit McQuoid’s versatility for Burnley had not escaped Millwall’s attention.

“We shall see on that situation,” the Lions boss said.

“Josh was in and out of our side and mainly on the bench.

“It has been interesting because he has shown a lot of flexibility at Burnley of playing different roles in different formations, probably because of the amount of very good forwards that they’ve got.

“He has been playing in a wide area but it is good for us that he has played well.

“Josh is still a young player and I wouldn’t close any doors.

“The purpose of him going out on loan is to get out and play and it has been interesting that he has done so.

“We will keep reviewing and watching the situation but his flexibility has been noted.”

Jackett also provided a progress report on Millwall’s current trio of walking wounded players – Jack Smith, Liam trotter and Steve Mildenhall.

He said: “With Jack Smith there is no structural damage or broken jaw but the area is very sensitive, sore and still quite swollen.

“We will see in the next few days how quickly that settles down.

“I don’t think he will train today but possibly might do tomorrow.

“If he does he will come back quite quickly but there is still a lot of swelling and soreness around that jaw area.

“Liam Trotter I don’t think will make Saturday but at some stage next week he will come back.

“Whether that is Peterborough on Tuesday or Forest on Saturday week, I don’t know yet.

“Steve Mildenhall should be back in full training within the next few days.”

Millwall will be looking to build on last week’s welcome 3-1 victory at Burnley when they entertain high-flyers Reading at The Den on Saturday.

The lions are without a home success in the Championship since a 1-0 victory over Portsmouth on boxing day and Jackett concedes it is a situation which has to change quickly if his side are to pull clear of relegation danger.

He said: “Reading are the form side and are going very well, but we have to sort out our home form and we haven’t scored enough goals at The Den.

“We’ve had spells and some performances but generally we haven’t done enough at home.

“It is something which has to change if we want do well and be successful as a club because our home form is crucial to that. It needs to change this Saturday.”
