Cray Wanderers 1-2 Aveley

Cray are still looking for points to keep themselves away from the Ryman Premier drop-zone, after an injury-hit side went down 1-2 at home to Aveley on Tuesday night.

An evenly contested first half saw Cray's reshuffled team go close to scoring when George Porter shot wide after a strong run, and Leigh Bremner headed over from a Colin Luckett cross.

Tony Kessell had to make two good saves just before half time, but he had no chance to stop Ryan Edgar giving the Millers the lead on 49 minutes when the Wands lost possession and were caught with defenders out of position when Aveley broke upfield.

Cray clawed their way back into the game on 71 minutes when a free-kick by debutant Jack Clark was headed home by Tommy Tyne.

Cray had their best spell of play, and Bremner's shot was tipped round the post with the 'keeper at full stretch.

But there was an unhappy ending for the Wands when a defensive mix-up gave the Millers their winning goal on 81 minutes, and the referee waved away what seemed to be a stone-cold penalty kick when Clark was tripped while Cray were pressing for a late equaliser.

Cray: Kessell, Folloni, Luckett, Boateng (Charles 60), Willy, Day, Porter, TYne, L Wood, Bremner, Clark.

Cray are at home to Ashford Town (Middx) on Saturday at 3pm.
