Thamesmead Town 2-1 Harlow Town
A skilful goal from Joel Greaves on his home debut secured all three points for the Mead at home to Harlow Town.
The match got off to a roaring start as Peter Smith headed the Mead ahead on the first attack after just 80 seconds.
However, a minute and a half later, Harlow equalised as Michael Pelly was left unmarked to head the ball home direct from a corner.
The game settled in to a well contested battle and with the Mead giving the ball away easily, Harlow failed to capitalise.
On 54 minutes, Joel greaves marked his arrival at Bayliss Avenue with a skilful goal from an acute angle. Some smart play from Rikki Cable allowed him to feed the ball to Greaves on the byline. Greaves, with a little time to spare, curled the ball around Waite in the Harlow goal and just inside the far post.
From here, Mead controlled possession but still gave the ball away far to often in a workman like performance.
In injury time, Harlow felt aggrieved when Ola Akinnawo looked to have broken through the Mead defence and fell from a challenge by Scott Mulholland, only for their protests to be waved away.
“I think we deserved the win today, we worked hard for it” said Mead boss Keith McMahon after the game, who’s been busy signing new players. “I’m pleased with the new signings, Joel (Greaves) and Rob (Carter). I’ve put in an approach for a midfielder to bolster the squad and should here about that by the middle of next week”
The win sees Mead go third on goal difference in the Ryman League Division 1 North.
Thamesmead line-up: Northwood, Smith, Moore, Baker, Campbell, Carter, Mulholland, Dawson, Greaves (R Momodu, 82), Cable (Constable, 70), Perona. Unused subs: G Momadu, G Smith, Borchescu.
